Frank Knotts (’74, ’80) was awarded Board Member of the Year for 2015 at the Greater Darlington Chamber of Commerce Award Banquet held in February 2016.

Mary Conti Barton (’76) was named the Chairman of Sister Cities of Long Beach, Inc., which includes sister cities in Mombasa, Kenya, and Qingdao, China, and Venice, Italy. She has retired from consulting in international trade.

Diane Scarborough (’77) was awarded the Lawrence F. Swails Award at the 2015 biology alumni awards reception.

Susie Brown (‘77, ’81) retired earlier this year from Lester Elementary where she served as a school guidance counselor for 28 years. Susie spent over 37 years working in education.

Louis Drucker (’77) was awarded the L. Claude McClary Conservation Achievement Award from the Williamsburg Soil and Water Conservation District for 2016.

Terry Welck (’77) was named as a coach for the 3A-2A South team in the CAWS All-Star games. Under his leadership as the Johnsonville High School Girls Varsity Softbal, the Flashes have taken five district titles and the Lower State title twice.

Carrie Brock (’79) was appointed Superintendent for Williamsburg County schools in February 2016.

 

Nineteen80s

Roger Bazen (’80) retired from state public school teaching after 29 years and will be teaching a few Social Studies classes at Williamsburg Academy in Kingstree. Roger and his wife Myra reside near Coward, S.C.

Al Gibbons, CPA (’80) recently changed his CPA firm name upon the semi-retirement of his partner to Gibbons & Company, CPA, PA . Al opened his accounting practice in Manning, SC in 1984 after working since graduation with local CPA firm. Al has continued to practice in Manning  since that time first as a sole practitioner and then in partnership with another CPA.

Janie Howell (’80) was awarded the Community Pride Award for 2015 at the Greater Darlington Chamber of Commerce Award Banquet held in February 2016.

The Hon. Debra Jackson (’80) was awarded the Outstanding Alumni award in February 2016.

Dr. Treadwell Campbell (’81) was awarded the Professional Industry Award in Medical & Health for 2016.

Tressa Gardner (’86) was named Associate Vice-President of the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology at Florence-Darlington technical College in June 2016.

Michael (’85) & Kim (’86) Hawkins became the proud grandparents of twins in June 2016.

Robert Sears (’85) was a presenter at the Fred R. Clayton, Jr. Chemistry Alumni Symposium in April 2016.

Cora Moore Barnhart (’87) serves as the Chair of Undergraduate Programs in the Rinker School of Business at Palm Beach Atlantic University. She is also Vice President of Barnhart Economic Services, LLC.

Paul Lundy (’88) was awarded the Dr. Morgan B. Coker Award at the FMU School of Business breakfast in February 2016.

David Rast (’89) celebrated 4 years with Takeda Pharmaceuticals. He has enjoyed serving on the FMU Alumni Board and would love to encourage others to jump in! David and his wife have two children, one in college and one a rising Junior at South Florence.

Kristi Anderson (’90) was named as the new principal of Ronald E. McNair Junior High School in May 2016.

Dr. Shirley Bausmith (’91, ’94, ’00) was presented the Education Leadership Award at the FMU School of Education Alumni Association reception in February 2016.

Andra Watkins (’91) returned to Florence to speak about her memoir, “Not Without My Father: One Woman’s 444-Mile Walk of the Natchez Trace.”

Michael Colaiacovo (’92) was inducted into the FMU Athletic Hall of Fame in February 2016.

Mary Jackson (’92) was inducted into the FMU Athletic Hall of Fame in February 2016.

Dona Jo Brown (’93, ’99) was awarded Educator of the Year for 2015 at the Greater Darlington Chamber of Commerce Award Banquet held in February 2016.

Ken Cribb (’94) was named head football coach at Georgetown High School. Cribb was an assistant coach there for the 2015-16 season and previously was head coach at Hemingway High School and Choppee High. He won South Carolina Class A state titles at both those schools.

Jenny N. Hostetler (’94) an Accounting Supervisor of Moore Beauston & Woodham L.L.P’s Hartsville Office successfully passed the EA Exam, earning her credentials as an Enrolled Agent.

Baron Davis (’95) was promoted to superintendent-elect for Richland 2 School District. He has been an educator for nearly 20 years, 13 of which have been with Richland 2. He also worked at Richland 1 and Orangeburg 4.

Tim Hill (’95) was awarded the Alumni Association Volunteer of the Year award for 2016.

Contina Quick-McQueen (’95) was appointed Principal of Leonardtown Elementary School in June 2016.

Pam Flowers (’96) competed in the 2016 Dancing with the Stars of Florence.

Dr. Timothy Hunter (’96) was awarded the Administrator Award at the FMU School of Education Alumni reception in February 2016.

Brian Kelley (’96) was awarded the Alumni Association Professional Industry Award in Business & Industry for 2016.

Tim Young (’96) returned to Florence to host a workshop on “Anthropomorphic” an original musical in January 2016.

Mark Allen (’96) was named as the IT Director for JEAR Logistics this past year.

Kathy Campbell (’96) is the new Associate Pastor of Congregational Care at Central United Methodist Church in Florence. Campbell, who received her MDiv. in 2001 from Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbia, SC, is a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, which has a cooperating agreement the United Methodist Church. Previously, Kathy served as a chaplain for McLeod Hospice in Florence.

Julie Mahn (’97) was named as the new principal of West Hartsville Elementary School in May 2016.

Joseph Steen (’97) competed in the 2016 Dancing with the Stars of Florence.

Alan McCormick (‘98) is Battalion Chief for the Howe Springs Volunteer Fire Department. A long-time volunteer fireman, McCormick manages equipment, water supply, among other duties, for HSVFD. McCormick is employed as senior consultant for Prolifics, an IT solutions company.

 

Two Thousands

Kenneth Grice (‘01) was promoted to IT Manager at Duke Energy’s H.B. Robinson Nuclear Plant.

Sterling Mosby (’02) was named the new principal at Hannah Pamplico High School in February 2016.

Roger Polky (’02, ’15) received his Master’s degree in Nursing from FMU in December 2015.

Jason Stalvey (’02) owns his own luxury global fashion brand in New York City.

Patrick Rabon (’03) was named Carolina Forest High School Teacher of the Year in 2016.

Crystal Whitfield (’03, ’16) received her Master’s of Art in Teaching from FMU in May 2016.

Carla Brandon (’04) was awarded the Veteran Educator Award at the FMU School of Education Alumni reception in February 2016.

Laura M. Rhoads (’04, ’06) CPA, a Senior Accountant in Moore Beauston & Woodham L.L.P’s Hartsville office has successfully completed and passed all four parts of the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Exam, earning her CPA certification in South Carolina.

Austin Brown (‘04) was upgraded to Captain at Piedmont Airlines, a wholly-owned part of the American Airlines system (and serving the Florence Regional Airport). He and his wife, Dr. Amy Brown recently moved back to South Carolina and reside in Tega Cay with their 6 year old daughter, 3 year old son and are expecting twins in Fall 2016. In addition, they both continue to serve in the USAF Air National Guard as a C-130J pilot and as an Optometrist, respectively.

Vikki Cross (’05) graduated with a Master’s degree in Education from FMU in May 2016.

Laura Rhoads (’05, ’06) passed all four parts of the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Exam, earning her CPA certification for South Carolina in May 2016.

Martha Marshall-Stewart (’05, ’07) was awarded the Alumni Association Professional Industry Award in Natural & Behavioral Sciences for 2016.

Kyle Miller (’05,‘15) & Felicia Chambers (’05,’13) were married in May 2016. He received his  Master’s degree in Business Administration from FMU in December 2015 and accepted the title of Coordinator of Orientation and Provisional Programs at FMU.

Mark Stack (’05) joined the FMU staff as a Systems Support Technician in January 2016.

Dr. Stephanie (Adams) Strickland (’05) was a presenter at the Fred R. Clayton, Jr. Chemistry Alumni Symposium in April 2016.

David Copeland (’06) was named principal at Savannah Grove Elementary School in Florence School District 1. Previously, Copeland was assistant principal at McLaurin Elementary School.

Tiffany Small (’06, ’16) received a Master’s of Business Administration from FMU in May 2016.

Ashley Young (’06) was promoted to Financial Controller at McCall’s Supply Inc. in Johnsonville, SC. She has been with the company for 8 years and resides in Hemingway, SC, with her husband of 12 years, 7 year old daughter and 3 year old son.

Lauren Vause (’06) was named president of the Junior League of Florence for the 2016-2017 year.

Staci Hoylen (’07) & Skip Duffee were married in January 2016.

Tiffany Gibson (’07) was selected by the South Carolina Board of Directors to become a S.C. Bar Foundation Ambassador for the Class of 2016.

Magan Lyerly (’07) was named the 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year at Johnsonville Elementary School.

Crystal R. Rodgers (’07) a Staff Accountant of Moore Beauston & Woodham L.L.P’s Hartsville office successfully passed the EA Exam in May, earning her credentials as an Enrolled Agent.  

Erica Sellers Stroman (’07) has relocated to Charlotte, NC, and currently serves as a Campus Director at a cosmetology school in Concord, NC.  She and her husband have an 11 month old son and run a small business, OmarNichole Life Solutions that focuses on helping others travel the world.

Joey Webster (’07) joined the FMU Housing staff in December 2015.

Lindsey Bibler (’08) was awarded the Milken Educator Award in February 2016.

Devin Cribb (’08,’15) received a Master’s degree in Education from FMU in December 2015.

Justin Greene (’08) finished a championship run with Mexico’s Mazatlan Venados in the Caribbean Series in February 2016.

Sara Moyer (’08,’15) received a Master’s degree in Nursing from FMU in December 2015.

Todd R. Davis (’09) accepted a position as Financial Advisor with SouthPark Capital in Charlotte, NC. He graduated from Queens University’s McColl School of Business in May of 2015 with Master of Business Administration.

Danagene Razick (’09) joined the FMU Staff as the Associate Director in Human Resources: Administrative Services in June 2016.

Jennifer Spell (’09) joined the FMU Staff as a part-time instructor of Psychology in August 2016.

John Sweeney (‘09) was named Business Development Director for the Northeast Strategic Alliance (NESA), which coordinates business recruiting in a 10-county region in northeastern South Carolina. Previously, Sweeney was a member of U.S. Representative Tom Rice’s district staff in Florence.

Alisha Wyatt (’09,’16) received a Master’s of Art in Teaching degree from FMU in May 2016.

Jessica Goings (‘09) recently completed her first book, Single: Why Wait? Its available on Amazon.

She plans fun cultural and educational events for students as well as promoting life skills students need to succeed in college and in life after college. She completed an International Economics Travel Study program at the European Academy of Otzenhausen in Germany in May 2016.

Adrienne Causey (‘15) accepted a position at Johnsonville High School as a part of their science department as she continues through the PACE program. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education and a master’s degree in science. She began a ministerial internship program through the South Carolina Church of God to receive her ordination license.

Troy J. Miles (‘16) was accepted into a five year doctoral program at Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University.

Frances “Franny” T. Robinson (’16) joined the FMU staff as a Student Service Admission Counselor in May 2016.

Brooke Thibodaux (‘16) accepted the position of account executive with WBTW News 13.

Rollins Loweder (‘16) accepted a position with Easter Seals as an Early Intervention Specialist providing family training and service coordination for children with special needs or disabilities and their families.

 

Friends & Faculty

Angie Payton, wife of Professor Doug Gray, passed away on April 30.

Fred Sheheen, director of the FMU-based Non-Profit Leadership Institute and the Rural Area Leadership Institute, passed away on June 6. Besides his non-profit work at FMU, Sheheen was a long-time supporter of the university, and of higher education in general. He was a former director of the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education.

Elease N. Webb, mother of long-time FMU athletic trainer Marion “Spyder” Webb, passed away July 3 after a lengthy illness. Webb was an ardent supporter for FMU athletics.

Gail Ness Richardson, long-time FMU supporter, was named a Trustee Emeritus at the board’s June, 2016 meeting. Richardson has served as an FMU trustee since 1989.
